On Tuesday afternoon, October 23, seventeen travelers depart for a 13-day
journey to Israel and Jordan. The group is hosted by Von Clemans, Associate
Pastor for Adult Education, and is made up of MPPC members, family of members,
friends in the community, and three folks from First Presbyterian in York, SC,
where Von's wife, Marion, works as a Christian Educator.
Flying first to
JFK Airport in New York the group will travel overnight to Tel Aviv, Israel,
arriving around 5 p.m on Wednesday (Israel is six hours ahead of Eastern
Daylight Savings Time).
The itinerary will take us first to Bethlehem
where we will visit Christians in ministry in the West Bank. From Bethlehem we
travel to Ibillin, Nazareth, and the Golan Heights area. We'll visit Capernaum,
enjoy a boat ride on the Sea of Gallile, then visit religious sites in that area
staying in Tiberius. After two days in Gallilee we return to Jerusalem. There we
visit the Mount of Olives, walk the Palm Sunday Path, and explore sites in and
around the Old City of Jerusalem. Another day takes us to Jericho, Qumran, and
the Dead Sea. On our final day in Jerusalem we visit the Western Wall, Temple
Mount, many other religious sites, and have a dialogue with Israeli and
Palestinian businessmen. Three of our group return to the U.S. while the remnant
continue the next day to Jorday. There we will see Mt. Nebo and nearby sites. A
day each will be spent in Petra and Jerash before returning to Tel Aviv for the
return flight home.
We will post photos and commentary as we travel. We
hope you will vicariously travel with us by visiting this blog regularly and
sharing your comments and questions.
